Acceptable Use Agreement


By activating your account through the Acceptable Use Program in one of the ORL Computer Labs/Learning Centers, the owner of the Computer Lab Account has agreed to the following terms.

Misuse of lab account may result in suspension of account, loss of lab use privileges, and/or referral for disciplinary action.


Eligibility

The Residential Life Computer Labs and Learning Centers (located in Covel Commons, De Neve Plaza and Rieber Hall) are available for use to residents in De Neve Plaza, Dykstra Hall, Hedrick Court, Hitch Suites, Rieber Court, Saxon Suites, Sproul Hall, and Sunset Village ONLY. University Apartment residents are not allowed to use the Residential Life computer labs.

Accounts and Passwords

  • Your account is for your use only. Account-sharing is strictly prohibited.
  • You are responsible for all activity that originates from your account.
  • Protect your account from unauthorized use by setting a password and changing the password on a regular basis.
  • Do not share your password with anyone. No staff member will ever ask you for your password.

Printing

  • Printing is $.05 per black and white page, and $.25 per color page.
  • All residents receive a $5.00 print allowance when his or her account is activated. When the initial $5.00 allowance has been expended, you may deposit money into your print account. There is a $5.00 minimum deposit for each transaction. The print deposit will be billed through Housing Accounts Receivable.
  • Print credit will only be given for lost, damaged, or illegible printouts due to mechanical failures and software problems ONLY. We are not responsible for accidental print jobs, blank pages, or other user-side mishaps.
  • To request a refund for printouts, please speak with the lab proctor on-duty in Covel or De Neve Computer Labs during hours of operation. Refunds will not be made if the resident does not have the misprints present.
  • Please allow up to one week for adjustments to be made. The resident will be notified of the changes.
  • Resident print balances expire at the end of the academic year. Any remaining balance will not be refunded.
  • The use of the Manual Feed tray (tray 1) on the printers is prohibited.
  • Residents are not allowed to print with their own paper. Lab paper only.

Acceptable Use

The Residential Life Computer Labs and Learning Centers are provided to assist you in your academic pursuits and for incidental personal use. Any violation of this intended use is grounds for discipline. Examples of misuse include, but are not limited to:

  • Allowing someone to use and/or access your account.
  • Attempting to circumvent any security measures.
  • Attempting to access any information not explicitly intended for you.
  • Attempting to install software on lab computers.
  • Attempting to copy software or data off the lab computers or network servers.
  • Using the systems to view and/or transmit images, sounds, or messages to harass others or seriously distract other users.

Lab Behavior and Etiquette

  • Absolutely no food or drink in the lab areas. All open containers must be left outside the lab area.
  • Do not leave workstation unattended.
  • We are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.
  • We are not responsible for the data or personal files stored on our systems.
  • The computer lab is a study area. Please turn cell phones to vibrate and refrain from loud conversations that would interfere with others’ work.
  • Please give up your workstation if others needs to use it for academic purposes and your use is non-academic.
  • Reproduction of copyrighted materials is forbidden.

Additional Policies

In addition to the above Residential Life Computer Lab Policies, all existing laws (federal and state) and University regulations and policies apply. Including not only those laws and regulations that are specific to computers and networks, but also those that may apply generally to personal conduct. Examples of laws and policies include but are not limited to:

  • UCLA Communications Technology Services Acceptable Use Policy
  • Section 102.25 of the University Student Conduct Policy
  • Section 502 of the California Penal Code
