RLCC FAQs

What does RLCC stand for?
Resident Learning Center Consultant

What does that mean?
RLCCs live on campus with the residents (one per building) and proctor the learning centers at Covel Commons, De Neve Plaza, and Rieber Hall. They also hold workshops and events related to teaching residents technical skills and do one large program per quarter such as Tech Fair.

How much time does it require?
RLCCs work part-time, usually around 9-18 hours a week. This includes at a minimum of 6 hours of proctoring in the lab and 3 hours of meetings held weekly. Additionally, RLCCs have a two-week fall training prior to the Fall Quarter and a two day winter training prior to the Winter Quarter.

What are the RLCC’s responsibilities?
In addition to being an employee of the Office of Residential Life (ORL) and upholding their standards, RLCCs are expected to handle user accounts and print credit, troubleshoot equipment in the learning centers, and create workshops to teach residents useful technical skills. RLCCs are also a resource to residents, answering any technical questions and advising residents on resources.

How much do RLCCs get paid?
RLCCs earn $10.69 per hour. The position receives a stipend for 9 hours to cover two lab shifts, RLCC meetings and hall meetings. Additional proctored hours are submitted on a timesheet.

What benefits are there to becoming an RLCC?
RLCC’s get guaranteed housing, learn about technical topics during weekly meetings, put on large programs like Tech Fair and build relationships within residential life.

What is the hiring process like?

WHO are we?
Residential Learning Center Consultants, or RLCCs (as they're affectionately known), are residents on the hill. They are mostly dual-position ORL staff (e.g. RA and RLCC).
WHAT do we do?
They are specially trained to give seminars and workshops related to technology that impact the UCLA residential community. RLCCs also put together events like the recently held 1st Annual Technology Fairand are responsible for bringing academic technology to their floors, buildings, and across the hill.

They helped to found the WIT (Women in Technology) ORL-sponsored student group last year. Please visit the WIT website for more details about them. WIT is now run by a board of WIT members, but the RLCCs still actively participate in their events and workshops.
